How To Reset a Pokéwalker Without the Original Save File

PokemonHeartGoldPokewalker.JPG

I started a new save on Pokémon HeartGold a few weeks back, but just recently got around to replacing the dead battery in my Pokéwalker. I was surprised to see it had a Pokémon still in it from an ancient save file I no longer have.

When I tried to reset the Pokéwalker, I kept getting an error that said “No trainer found.” Google Search didn’t really provide any answers, but I finally was able to figure out what the trouble was!

For some reason, 3DS handhelds seem to make connecting to the Pokéwalker more difficult. I had tried on both my old 3DS and my New 3DS XL with no luck. I saw other people post online that they were able to make it work by holding the Pokéwalker super close to the cart, but I was unable to reset until I used a DS Lite.

Here are the steps to reset a Pokéwalker below, in case anyone else needs them:

  1. Start your HeartGold/SoulSilver game using a handheld from the DS family (DS/DS Lite/DSi).

  2. Once the game has loaded, choose “Connect to Pokéwalker”.

  3. On the Pokéwalker menu, hold Down + X + L at the same time.

  4. When prompted, choose Connect on the Pokéwalker to erase the game data.
